Museum Square blooms

Sunday May 19, 2024, Chinatown Park

In collaboration with Save Chinatown Solidarity Network

On May 19, we gathered for Museum Square Blooms, a celebration of our Black and Asian elders battling displacement in DC Chinatown. Our centerpiece was a gorgeous floral installation by Adele Kenworthy and Flowers by MJ, the backdrop for many joyful community portraits.

A community altar designed by Xena Ni offered a space for residents, neighbors, and friends to voice their hopes and aspirations for Chinatown’s future. Chinatown Art Studio youth ran the kids’ corner and collaborative banner-making station — bringing intergenerational connections!

We are showing the city a vibrant vision of what Chinatown should and could be: a place of solidarity, equity, and interconnectivity.
